Vuttomi Liquids Launches Delicious Range Of Gins

Already on the menu at Vuttomi Liquids, which is based in Houghton, Johannesburg, is G&T tea, hot chocolate, and coffee sold through Vuttomi Liquids, an artisanal, black, female-owned coffee roasting business serving both the South African and international retail and trade markets.

As a member of the International Women Coffee Alliance and Global Coffee Platform, Vuttomi Coffee empowers women to lead themselves, their families, and their communities to sustainable livelihoods. Beans are ethically and traceably sourced thus supporting, investing and uplifting farms worldwide.

Husband and wife team, Nonhlanhla (Noni), and Dudley Ditshego are the co-founders and creators of Vuttomi Liquids. The Afropolitan chatted to Noni to find out about their new addition to the Vuttomi Liquids range – gin!

“We decided that we wanted to learn something new on our anniversary. I love gin, and so I said: ‘Let’s learn how to make it!’,” Noni told us. She said that both her late parents were businesspeople and so she grew up learning about retail. “We registered the gin a year ago and were excited to share the taste with the rest of the world.”

There are three premium flavours of gin to choose from – the 750ml Classic Gin, the 500ml Coffee Gin, and the 500ml Moringa Gin. “Our Classic Gin is like your African dry gin but smoother. The Moringa Gin has a green medicinal and fresh chlorophyllic taste with a ginger undertone to it, and the coffee is like liquid gold that smells of coffee. It is an extremely unimaginable taste between Ethiopian coffee beans and juniper berries – a ‘wow’ effect,” says Noni, adding that in making their craft gin, attention is paid to every detail, resulting in a smoother and tastier beverage. “Detail, detail, detail,” Noni emphasises.

The gin is sold for R350 at Craft Cartel in Illovo, The Fridge in Sandton, Bryanston, and Morningside, at Spar Tops and Checkers in Norwood, and online.

We love the bottles, which look so elegant, sophisticated, and unique. Noni laughed and reminded us that “We all eat and drink with our eyes, so the packaging was Key.
